Shawdesh Desk:
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is probing into a case filed over forced suicide of banker Abdul Morshed Chowdhury in Chattogram.
On April 7, police recovered the hanging body of Morshed, manager of Bank Alfalah Agrabad branch, from a flat in Nahar Bhaban in the Hill view residential area in the port city.
Ishrat Jahan Chowdhury, wife of Morshed, filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station against victim’s cousin Jabed Iqbal Chowdhury and Parvez Iqbal, Naeem Uddin Shakib and Shahidul Haque Chowdhury Russell.
Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury’s son Nazmul Karim Chowdhury Sharun is allegedly mastermind of the incident. Sharun reportedly instigated the banker to commit suicide.
In a press conference, Ishrat Jahan directly blamed whip’s son for forcing her husband to commit the suicide.
Three weeks into death of banker, Munia death took place. A telephonic conversation between Sharun and Munia viral on social media created an impression that they had affair. Whatsapp and messenger chats also intensified the doubt. Experts think Sharun might have emotionally blackmailed Munia and instigated her to commit suicide. He wanted to divert the case filed over banker suicide into a different angle.
Although local police station started investigation into banker suicide, the case was later transferred to detective branch. The FIR-named accused are yet to be arrested.
On April 24, banker Morshed’s wife at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) demanded arrest of Sharun in connection with the case. Within two days, Munia death occurred.
Sharun tried to kill two birds with one stone. The whistleblowers of Sharun’s misdeeds have been implicated in the cases filed over Munia’s death.
If the cases filed over banker’s suicide and Munia’s death are investigated concurrently, the clues behind two incidents will be unveiled and perpetrators be detected, experts opined.
